Writing Celebration

We had our 1st writing celebration today. We had cookies and listened to our fellow "authors" read their stories. WOW! We are a classroom of real published AUTHORS!

Answer this question......if you dare!

Who do you think made the most difference for our community and why? (Out of the 5 people that we have researched)

Social Studies

In Social Studies we are researching Historical People that made a difference. Did you know that Ruby Bridges went to school and was the only person in the school for months? We all decided that she was a very brave little girl.  We have researched Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Helen Keller, Clara Barton and Ruby Bridges. We are also researching another figure who we think changed their communities for the better.  It has been pretty awesome to watch the kids use different resources to find out about these people!

Word Study

The kids got their new words last week. They should bring home their journal sometime this week to complete their 3 spelling assignments. Remember the focus is to learn the patterns of the words. The best way to learn what they are doing in school is to do some of the pattern activities we do in class. Ask them to show you how to do a Buddy Sort, Speed Sort, or a Written Sort. We will have the spelling test this Friday, October 8!

Science Fun

We were learning about Gas and the different forms it can take. Did you know that gas, like liquids, have mass and take on the shape of the container they are in?  We did several different experiments using gas......this one was the most fun! We blew bubbles on our desks and talked about where the gas wasand how it got there. Where do you think the gas came from that made the bubble?  What type of gas was it?

Read with Me

We love reading with partners. Not only is it fun, it helps us build fluency and read with expression!  We are going to be "performing" some Reader's Theatre scripts to our classmates soon.
